Problem: Fireplace mortar used for firebrick installations should be a refractory mortar that will resist temperatures equal to or better than the firebrick being installed. Building codes now exclude the use of jobsite prepared mortar that include mixtures of fireclays and various cement or mortar types. To meet building code requirements, fireplace mortar for the firebrick must be refractory mortar specifically manufactured for this purpose using strict quality controls. This will help to ensure the quality, integrity, and fire safety of your masonry fireplace installation.
Solution: Heat Stop Products
Heat Stop® brand fireplace mortar products manufactured for this purpose resist temperatures well in excess of 2000 degrees Fahrenheit. The most popular products include Heat Stop-II or Heat Stop-50 non-water soluble products that contain all of the appropriate binders and aggregates needed for fireplace mortar applications. They may be used inside or outside, may be colored, and are the most economical choice.
Other fireplace mortar products include our Heat Stop premixed (dark gray) or Domestic Fireplace Mortar® (beige) in a gallon (15 lb.) or a 50 lb. pail. For more information or to order click here.
